How We Use It

We send all our transactional emails through Listmonk — deployment notifications, health check reports, invoice reminders. It connects to our mail server via SMTP, so nothing routes through a third-party email service.

For product updates and technical content, we use Listmonk's campaign tools. Subscriber segmentation keeps the right messages going to the right people without manual list management.

We run it behind our own SMTP infrastructure, so deliverability is in our hands. No shared IP reputation. No mystery blacklisting because another customer on your SaaS plan was sending spam.

What We've Learned Running It

Deliverability is the real challenge with self-hosted email. SPF, DKIM, DMARC, reverse DNS, IP reputation — skip any of these and your messages land in spam. We configure all of it and verify delivery before handing over.

Listmonk's PostgreSQL backend is fast, but bounce processing needs attention. Unprocessed bounces quietly inflate your subscriber counts and hurt sender reputation. We set up automated bounce handling from day one.
